Hi Wildcats! It’s been another great week of learning, and students should be bringing books home to read each night. We’re excited to share that our campus “You’ve been booked” program has started, and classes are starting to read and share the title with others! Ms. Beaty, our campus librarian, has chosen a title per grade level for the staff to read to their class and pass on to another class throughout the month. Our goal is to build a common experience with a book! We’re working to build our literacy community! Several of our community members have inquired about various ways to volunteer on the campus. One way is to join the campus site-based development team. The team is comprised of staff members, family members, business members and community members. This team reviews the campus improvement plan and supports the campus goals. It meets four times a year in the evening, and our first meeting will be September 30th at 5:30pm. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please email by September 23rd.
On another note, campus staff is asking for assistance from our families regarding personal items. Many of our children are bringing items to school that do not bring educational value to the school day such as trading cards, stuffed animals, and trinkets. All of these items should remain at home. In the upcoming weeks, all families will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher to review student progress and set academic goals by September 30th. For students in 4th and 5th grade, staff are updating grades every Monday by 5 pm. Our kindergarten through 3rd grade students receive a standards based report card, and if teachers have celebrations or concerns to share, they will discuss how this happens during fall conferences.
In addition, we’re excited to host our annual FallFest on September 27th! Please check your calendar for the following dates:
9/19 Hearing and Vision Screening
9/19 Dual Language Family Night at Reed Elementary
9/20 Elementary Night at LHS football game
9/25 Student Training: What is Bullying
9/25 Early Release at 11:45am
9/27 FallFest
10/10 Fall Pictures
Thank you for your partnership and sharing your child with us! Remember, we are WSE!
